Established in 1842, the Portland Guardian eventually merged with the Observer in 1890, dropping the 'Guardian' banner to become the Portland Observer. The Portland Observer is the state's third oldest newspaper, and celebrated 150 years on August 20, 1992. The paper is published Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Portland is an historic town and is recognised as being Victoria's birthplace, it was founded in 1834. A small seaside village transformed into a hub of industrial development with a world class deep water port that is home to holiday makers' pleasure craft and the fishing fleet.
